Interior Wall paper

Home Decorating with Wallpaper

If you’re looking at adding some colour or creating a theme to a room in your house, wallpaper is one of the latest trends that people are choosing.  Wallpaper simply isn’t like it used to be back in the day, as it now comes in many different colours, patterns and textures.  Decorating and Paint stores have brought out a heap of new contemporary wallpaper designs for you to choose from.  When deciding on Wallpaper for your room, there are a few things you may need to consider before purchasing.

–       Decide on where the wallpaper is going first and remember to factor in the durability.  If you’re applying to a Master Bedroom wall, a more fragile type of paper can be used, but a Child’s bedroom would need a more durable paper.

–       Do you have a budget?  With all the different options of wallpaper, you’ll find that the more involved textures will cost more than the plain papers.  Papers that are backed with natural materials will be a little more costly, but should you change your mind in a few years, they offer easier removal.  Vinyl papers are available for those on a tighter budget and also last a lot longer.  But seeing it is a non-natural product the removal could be a little harder.

–       How much paper will you need?  If you measure your walls and take the measurements along with you, generally the Store Sales Assistant should be able to help you with this.  Rolls will come in different lengths and widths depending on the pattern and supplier.  Just remember to keep in mind if there is a pattern on the wallpaper that you might need to allow for some waste when lining up a pattern is required.  With any wallpaper purchased though, it’s probably always better to get a little extra then run out and find you can’t get another roll.

If you’re not too keen to take the plunge and wallpaper a whole room, why not wallpaper one wall of the room and make a feature out of it.  This way you will be able to go with a bright textured or patterned print and not have it be too overpowering.  If a wall is still a bit daunting, another option is to buy a sheet of wallpaper and frame it.  This will allow you to decide if you want to take it further and wallpaper the walls in the future.
