Woodbury evolves the concept of a beautiful family home. An inspired collaboration by renowned firm Tim Stewart Architects has triumphantly delivered with great impact this brand new dream designer five-bedroom residence.
A desire to build a contemporary home in a traditional suburb is reflected in the unique and interesting design which challenges the concept of a traditional Queenslander. Architect Tim Stewart cleverly manipulated materials to extrapolate as much space and light from the 405sq m inner-city allotment as possible. Full height windows, an abundance of glass, and a seriously sexy curving of timber are the cornerstones of this home’s striking effectiveness.
An alluring contemporary facade subtly hints at the earthy palette of natural materials inside, where a soaring void and sculpted New Guinea Rosewood timber wall not only attract natural light but create an immense feeling of space and connection. Functional planning sees a smooth flow between the open-plan kitchen/dining/living area and outdoor bbq entertaining terrace which overlooks a sparkling swimming pool and low-maintenance backyard.
A central timber curved wall wraps the interior of the home in a warm hug, offsetting a soaring sunlit double-height void and staircase with built-in bookshelf and daybed. It’s all but impossible to gain such height on a curved wall, while the oversized windows also created enormous structural challenges. All the exterior timberwork took excruciating patience to perfect, from the fins on the entry to the shadowline details. Also of mention is the interior timber cladding, a lack of architraves, and a variation in bathroom tiling.
In regard to building on a flat narrow lot, this is Antech Constructions’ most technically challenging project to date. A large amount of time and experience was invested in the subtle but expensive details such as the flush finish on the garage door, creating the cavernous open spans, and perfecting the curves.
